How to add additional iSCSI target to LUN?
We currently have an iSCSI LUN configured with two target IPs, supporting ESXi VM storage across multiple hosts using round-robin load balancing. This setup has worked efficiently for over four years.
However, I’ve recently noticed an increase in storage latency. We’ve added several VMs, many of which are running SQL databases, and while performance isn’t critical yet, I can see it trending in that direction. I’d like to address the issue before it escalates.
I’m considering adding two additional target IPs to the LUN, increasing the total to four. My concern is whether some hosts, which only have access to two of the target IPs, could experience traffic blackholing if the LUN uses all four. Alternatively, will the storage array only respond on the originating IP? I assume it would only respond to the original initiator IP, but I want to confirm.
For reference, we are using a Dell Unity system. Apologies if this is a basic question—while my background is in networking, I have enough storage knowledge to be cautious.
